Road to Success
The first year was focused on helping my children cope with the emotional upheaval of Dad having a new life. During this time one of my children was diagnosed with sever ADHD and between pressure from the school to have him medicated, visits to the doctor, counsellors, and animosity between my ex and myself, life was pretty stressful. I was still determined to be a Stay at Home Mum and Earn an income, not an easy task.
I found an online business that I knew would give me the freedom I desired no matter how long it took. I also had to find a part-time job according to Australian Government legislation, be available to my children, fit in doctors appointments, be on call for the school - who I might add, rang me every day for help. There were times when I broke down and said 'enough is enough'. At these times, especially with my son was suspended from school AGAIN I decided to home school him just to help him catch up on the 7 months of the year he was missing out on.
For 5 years I worked 15hour a week cleaning houses, slowly building my online business, home schooling children, being a Mum and Dad, doing all the household chores with very little help from family (mainly criticisim) or anyone else, learning to deal with my depression, helping my children to cope with their depression and understand ADHD so we could help my son learn to control his actions and recognise the triggers.
Sound full on? Let me tell you a secret. Household chores were on low priority. They got done when I got there. As far as I'm concerned, if you came to visit you came to see me and my family NOT how clean the house is or whether the yard is mowed and tidy.
So 7 years on and I"m working at home full time, my house is cleaner more often, the yard is mowed and tidy more often, my son is employed and the other looking for employment. My daughter is learning to deal with everything life threw at her. Life has a more positive outlook. Oh and I accidently found my Family home. Someone asked me a while back what I wanted in life. Apart from having children who are emotionally balanced, happy in their career with a bright outlook, I want a family home. As I outlined what I wanted in a house I had a picture in my mind. The other day I took a wrong turn and discovered the house exactly like the one I pictured, even down to where in the street it was situated. No its not for sale.....yet. The reason is I don't have the finances just yet to purchase. When I'm ready, the house will be ready. So give me another couple of years.

Working at home
* Surveys - Some are free to join and others require a joining fee. Majority of the surveys pay a small commission or points for completed surveys. When the points or commissions add up to a certain amount you can then get paid. Sounds great doesn't it! I quickly found that I needed to spend most of my time answering surveys which usually partway informed me they had met their quota. Hence no pay.
* Data Entry/Word Processing - Very easy to do and hard to find. Majority I found required me to advertise my skills and wait to be bid on by prospective employers. Again I needed to pay a joining fee, get given some information and then I'm on my own. Grrr!
* Out Sourcing for various types of call companies. - This is a pay per call basis. some as low as 50 cents per call others as high as 3 dollars per call (conditions apply). This job is quite interesting, you still need to pay for public liability insurance (even though no-one enters your home on a work basis), police criminal check, telephone and computer equipment. Again hard to find decent company's but there is always answering someone's fantasy. lol
* Direct Marketing -Party Plan, MLM's, . - Plenty of those around. All have a cost to join plus product packs. Somewhere up to $2000+. There are some very successful people out there who have built an awesome business through determination, commitment and Can Do attitude. Success doesn't happen over night, allow 2-8 years. Shop around, find the company with the right principals, right product for your family, support and training to suit your needs.
* Affiliated Marketing - Again costs to start up, websites to design, websites to be affliated with. Alot of work with small commissions.
If none of these interest you, then you are looking for a JOB.

Its a Conspiracy!
The Australian government seems to hide these dangers. For instance when researching formeldahyde, the Australian EPA includes household products in 1 sentence. The Department of Enviroment and Heritage focus on Agricultural and Building supplies.
Yet when you look up Formeldahyde releasing agents like Q15 in Australia there is a huge range of personal care products and brands listed. apparently these agents are not listed on the products as they are beneath a certain level determined by the government. Add these so called low levels over a lifetime! Our bodies absorb these toxic chemicals causing life threatening diseases, birth defects and aging. In fact Johnson&Johnson just lost a huge ongoing court case in USA for this very reason.

How to budget
In many households, budget is a dirty word. It implys restrictions of finances and limitations on shopping. Oh what we'd give to be rich and not need a budget. Let me tell you now, the rich live on a budget. How do you think they became so wealthy and stayed that way? So lets get started on helping you become debt free!
1. Make a list of all your expenses eg rent/mortgage, loans, credit card, electricity, telephone/internet, school fees, uniforms, insurances, vehicle registration, extra school expenses - camps, bus fares, groceries,fuel, haircuts, medical, bank fees etc.
2. Make 6 columns beside the list. Mark them Week, fortnight, monthly, quarter, half year, year. Put in the amounts you pay under the appropriate column. eg electricity $300 each quarter, Mortgage pay $700 each month. Some bills vary, like electricity & telephone, put them in separately.
3. Next, total each bill for 12 months. eg Weekly amounts x 52, Fortnightly x 26, Monthly x 12, quarterly x 4, etc. Put total per bill in Year column.
4. Now divide the Yearly totals by the number of paydays you receive each year. eg Fortnightly = 26. If you receive income from different sources on a regular basis, use your main income payday.
5. Add the new amounts together. This is the amount to be deducted each payday BEFORE spending. You can either transfer into a separate account, withdraw total and place in separate marked envelopes or see if your bank offers a Bill Pay account. There are pros and cons for all so chose the best system for you.
If you feel that you will dip into your budget, then perhaps a bill pay account is best. Personally I like Bill Pay as the bank transfers the budgeted money automatically from my account into my Bill pay account. Everytime I receive a bill,the bank will pay it, whether I have enough money in that account or not. It all works out over the year and is totally stress free.
6. Are your expenses more than your income? Obviously you need to cut costs or find extra income. I will go into this more on a different post.
7. Is your income more than your expenses? Well Done!
The next step is to put 10% of your income away for a rainy day (retirement). This is never to be touched.
8. Still have money left over? Awesome. Then put 20% of your income away in another account. This is your emergency fund. Unexpected incidents happen in life and we are not always prepared. Now you are.
9. Any income left over is yours for luxury items, extra savings, whatever you want. You can even pay off your loans/credit cards earlier and save on interest by paying extra each week/month.

Managing Time
Its week 2 of a new year at school. We are starting to settle into the new and more rigid daily routine.
For my daughter beginning Year 8, its learning the routine of lessons in different classrooms rather than 1 classroom all day. AND getting up early to catch the bus. Thats a toughie at times.
Woo Hoo!! So far so good! The housework is up to date, the business is back on track and we are still keeping up with the school schedule. Being able to manage my time more efficiently even allows time to relax and just enjoy life.
I'll let you in on a secret to easy Time Management.
Colour Code your day.
List everything you do each day eg bathe, breakfast, go to work, business activities, cook meals, housework, kids activities, family appointments etc.
Now allocate a colour per group of activities. eg green for bathing, breakfast, school run, going to and from work, kids bedtime. red for kids sporting/extra curiccular activities, blue for family appointments, you get the drift, now do the same for your business activities.
Your diary or calender will look like a rainbow making it easy to see whats on at a glance.
You can even fit in those little "things to do" that you've put aside for 'when you get time'.

Why Work from Home.
I love my home business, in fact you could call it my bliss.After my marriage ended, I was looking for a way to supplement my income. After all being the sole provider for 3 school age children on a pension doesn't leave alot for the basic 'luxuries' most average families enjoy. eg. takeaway meals, dvd hire, occassional trip to cinema to see latest movie, regular clothes shopping, just to name a few.

In short, it just wasn't worth the pressure and stress to my already emotionally fragile family. Time to look at other options.
